Nana Akosua Asiedua Ansah Asare, a Teaching Assistant at the Department of Communication Design emerged as the winner for the National Film Authority's Script Bank Project Competition.

The competition which sought to unearth and celebrate the talent and creativity of young writers was part of NFA's mission to discover the next big script writer in Ghana. The Script Bank Project and the Ananse Project exemplify the National Film Authority’s dedication to cultivating the next generation of writers.

Earlier this year, the National Film Authority advertised a call for script writers to submit scripts featuring the Character, "Ananse". The call was eligible to young writers of 25 years and below who were passionate about storytelling.

After months of writing, submissions and reviewing of over 300 scripts, the winners of the competition were announced on 15th November, 2024 at the Accra Tourism Information Centre. The event recognizes the three finalists of the competition.

Our very own Teaching Assistant, Nana Akosua Asiedua Ansah Asare who worked with Ms. Bertha A. Ayim, Lecturer for film and digital video production, emerged as the winner of the Ananse Scriptwriting competition with her script titled “The Seamless Heist”. She was awarded with a cheque for GHc 5,000.

"This is the focused on creating our own and selling our tradition and culture to the diaspora in support of the economic development in our country."

The National Film Authority is a government agency mandated to enforce the legal framework for the production, regulation, nurturing and development of the Ghanaian film industry, and for the distribution, exhibition and marketing of films and related matters. It was set up by the Government of Ghana under the Development and Classification of Film Act 935 to regulate and streamline the ecosystem of film in Ghana.
